YOUR HELP CAN KEEP THE SKILLS OF SILENCED CARTOONISTS SHARPENED AND GIVE A THREATENED CARTOONIST THE GIFT OF INDEPENDENCE THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY!
CARTOONISTS RIGHTS defends the human rights of cartoonists under threat. But sometimes saving the human being risks losing the cartoonist, as the actions necessary to escape tormentors may lead to their loss of position and lack of opportunity.
We want to keep these cartoonists sharp by commissioning them to draw on their experiences. In doing so, we’ll provide them with a dignified way to pay bills while keeping their skills (and pencils!) sharp.
We will also offer a platform for voices threatened with silence, enabling them to advocate for their (and other cartoonists’) rights. Those who have lost their regular platforms, or felt unsafe to give personal testimony before, will benefit from the cathartic effect of telling their story.
It’s a win-win arrangement: the cartoonists get help in maintaining their independence, while helping us spread the word on their courage.
But we need your help to boost our fund for this venture.
Any donation will help, on a once only or on a regular (monthly, yearly or quarterly) basis. Regular is better, helping us plan and budget, but everything will be put to good use.
If you’re in a position to donate $200 or more you’ll be covering the cost of a complete piece of artwork.
We will be commissioning:
- single panel, editorial cartoons
- short cartoon strips, and multi panel cartoons
- long-form comics pages
