CARTOONISTS RIGHTS and Cartooning for Peace present their joint report – Cartoonists on the Line – covering the main trends in threats to the freedom of expression of editorial and political cartoonists around the world, as well as cases of note from the “post-pandemic” period, 2020 through 2022. This piece of collaborative work is supported by our partners FREEDOM CARTOONISTS. The report on threatened cartoonists is now freely available to download.
Cartoonists on the Line was launched today during a special session at the World Forum for Democracy 2023, held at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg. Speakers included: cartoonist Rachita Taneja (aka Sanitary Panels); Patrick Lamassoure (pen-name Kak), cartoonist and President of Cartooning for Peace; Terry Anderson, Executive Director of Cartoonists Rights; Jean-Paul Marthoz, Coordinator for Publishing of the Annual Report of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ); and Amb. Tanja Gonggrijp, Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Council of Europe the Netherlands. The session was moderated by Vladimir Vasak of the Arte television network. It will be available to view via the Council of Europe YouTube channel shortly.
