Aseem Trivedi cartoon in support of Basta’s beleagured press
I want to share about a very sad incident happened against a journalists’ movement for free press in Bastar, a Maoists affected area in India.
Last week I posted a series of 10 cartoons on facebook supporting a journalists’ movement in Bastar demanding a protection law for scribes and the freedom of two local journalists, Santosh Yadav and Somaru Nag. In the cartoon series, I tried to explain how journalists and Maoists are not the same and how police are trying to suppress the freedom of the local journalists out there.
Cartoon maligning press
With in two days, the police responded with three cartoons depicting journalists as ‘friends of Maoists’. They circulated the cartoons through WhatsApp groups and Facebook.

This is a very horrible event as the police are trying to malign the image of the journalists among the citizens, claiming journalists are helping hands for rebels.
